2 Hour Session

In just 2 hours you can have a very basic foundational understanding of landscape photography. We’ll look at what it takes to get a great image including planning, settings, composing your shot, and finally processing your image.

We’ll get some shots using filters to capture something that is completely unique.

Half and Full Day Sessions

Half days and full days (3 1/2 hours and 7 hours) gives us a more in-depth opportunity to explore various compositions and styles.

You are unique and as such have your own view of the Landscape. It’s all about honing that ability to re-create a scene according to your own unique perspective.

Timing

The best time for Landscape Photography is generally the hours around dawn and dusk. It’s not always the case but the light tends to be more pleasing then so I would suggest a photoshoot at those times is best.

Since we’ll be exploring setup, settings, technique, composition, balance etc it is not essential to be out at dawn or dusk but it is preferable.

Locations

There’s flexibility with the location. You may have a desire to take shots at a particular location or you can leave it to me to choose. Taking into account the weather, tide times, light direction and time of year then I will suggest a time/place somewhere on the rhins of Galloway that I consider to be optimum for a landscape photoshoot but in the end it’s your decision.

Equipment

You are free to use a Canon 6D full frame camera for the workshop at no extra cost. A full frame camera has a larger sensor and is generally able to capture a wider dynamic range (tones from dark to light) than an ordinary DSLR which has a cropped sensor. Also available for your use is a Manfrotto tripod – a sturdy tripod is essential when getting long exposure shots. We will also explore the use of Neutral Density (ND) filters. These are like sunglasses for the lens which enables longer exposures. The darker the filter the longer the exposure. A free 32GB SD card is yours to take home with you.

Testimonials

A Relaxed and Informative Workshop

Whilst on holiday I picked up one of Graham’s leaflets at the Mull of Galloway lighthouse where I had seen some of his impressive photos on display. We met one evening at a local beach to take photos in the golden hour around sunset. I’m a novice photographer and Graham was friendly and encouraging from the start, putting me at my ease. Very knowledgeable he gave me lots of guidance on settings and composition and let me try some of his filters to get different effects. I really enjoyed my evening and took some photos that I was pleased with. Graham followed up with an email on the key points we covered, answering some of my subsequent questions. He also sent me a print of my favourite shot from the evening. I have lots of tips to work on going forward which is what I wanted. I can honestly say this workshop was one of the highlights of my holiday!
